Transport Arrangements - Greek program
Depending on the school's proximity to the shopping district, the teachers and school can arrange for the excursion groups to walk, be transported by school buses, or to take public transport. The last two options can obviously incur extra costs for the students if the school is not in the position to cover transport costs, while public transport options and timetables would need to be pre-planned and organised by the teachers. School G was unable to provide school buses for the excursion groups (and the option of taking public transport was ruled out due to the resulting cost to the student participants), so the students and teachers walked to the shopping district and back for about 40 minutes in each direction.
Suggestions
Walking is not always recommended as in our experience students became tired and less enthusiastic towards the middle and end of the expedition, despite the numerous resting breaks during the day. Wearing comfortable shoes, such as runners, is strongly advised as the activities involve extensive walking. Approval from the school administration may be required as it might contravene the school's uniform code.
